Financial Accountant
Waterford City
Office based role
Our client is a well-established independent retail organisation operating in the South East of Ireland. This company is recognised as a market leader within its sector and continues to experience steady growth and success. This is a newly created role and is suitable to a Qualified Accountant looking for growth and development within their career.
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will take ownership of key finance functions while gaining broad exposure across financial reporting, operations, and systems development. This role offers strong career progression potential within a dynamic business environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead the day-to-day management of the finance function, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash flow
- Produce accurate monthly and quarterly management accounts with support from the finance team
- Assist in the preparation of annual accounts and forecasts for audit purposes
- Develop budgets with senior management and monitor performance against targets
- Manage all tax compliance returns (VAT, LPT, RCT, PAYE)
- Deliver timely financial reports and insights to the CEO, Board, and Audit & Risk Committee
- Complete Intrastat monthly and quarterly reporting
- Oversee credit control and cash management processes
- Liaise with internal and external auditors and manage the annual audit process
- Support systems accounting improvements (e.g., bank reconciliation automation, stock control, cycle counting)
- Manage monthly payroll and oversee weekly payroll processes, including year-end activities
- Review and approve overheads prior to system processing
- Lead annual stock take and perform detailed analysis on stock ageing and costing
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of audit-related information
Team & Systems Leadership
- Oversee, mentor, and develop the finance team
- Ensure financial systems are efficient, secure, and fit for purpose
- Drive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and overall finance processes
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence
Skills & Experience Required
- Qualified / Part Qualified qualification essential
- Minimum 2+ years’ post-qualification experience (preferred)
- Strong experience in management accounts, budgeting, and financial modelling
- Proven ability to engage and communicate with senior stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
