The Institute of Eye Surgery is Ireland’s only fully comprehensive sub-speciality eye-care network of private clinics offering a full range of eye services including cataract surgery, vitreo-retinal surgery, laser eye correction and glaucoma treatment. We also provide an urgent access eye care service nationwide.

Due to continued growth we are seeking a Trainee Medical Administrator to support the smooth running of the Institute of Eye Surgery by assisting with administrative duties while completing structured training. This is an entry‑level position designed to provide a clear development pathway toward becoming a fully trained Senior Medical Administrator.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing a high volume of patient and general phone calls under supervision.
  • Maintain a strong patient‑care focus and support improvements to patient experience.
  • Support the scheduling of appointments for clinical appointments.
  • Learn and develop competence in processing insurance billing forms and invoices.
  • Update the practice management system with patient and appointment details.
  • Perform basic data entry tasks with accuracy, escalating issues where required.
  • Draft simple written communication to patients and clinicians, with support.
  • Work within strict administrative protocols.
  • Ensure all patients receive the highest level of service before and after consultations.
  • Support general administrative tasks as assigned by senior staff.
  • Participate in ad-hoc duties assigned by senior staff where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Leaving certificate or equivalent.
  • No prior medical administration experience required.
  • Previous office, reception, or customer‑service experience.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (phone and written).
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to complete structured training and development milestones.
  • Proficient in Microsoft packages such as excel, outlook and word.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: €31,000.00 per year
