About the Institute of Eye Surgery (IoES)

The Institute of Eye Surgery is Ireland’s only fully comprehensive sub‑specialty eye‑care network, delivering advanced ophthalmic services across five clinic locations. Our mission is to provide exceptional patient‑centred care supported by innovation, continuous improvement, and clinical excellence.

We are expanding our finance function to support significant organisational growth and are now seeking a driven and capable Senior Accountant to join our team in Waterford.

About the Role

This role is ideal for an accountant who is ready to step up, take ownership, and continue progressing professionally. You will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of financial activities, contribute to system and process improvements, and play an integral role in developing robust financial reporting for a multi‑site healthcare organisation.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will support key financial operations and deputise when required.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Prepare, review and present monthly management accounts.
  • Complete and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage the Fixed Asset Register, including depreciation.
  • Oversee stock accounting processes.
  • Support sales accounting in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Lead year‑end processes, audit preparation, and auditor queries.
  • Conduct regular nominal ledger reviews.
  • Assist Credit Control with relevant processes.
  • Manage performance calculations and reporting.

Operational Support & Collaboration

  • Provide day‑to‑day financial support to the Head of Finance.
  • Work with clinic teams to improve financial processes and controls.
  • Lead or contribute to finance projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development of financial systems, reporting tools and workflows.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years’ accounting experience (practice or industry).
  • Experience preparing management accounts.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting systems and MS Office.

Desirable

  • Experience working with SMEs or organisations of varying sizes.
  • Exposure to healthcare, multi‑site environments, or rapid‑growth businesses.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience using Power BI for financial analysis/reporting.

Who Thrives in This Role

This position suits someone who:

  • Enjoys taking ownership and expanding their remit.
  • Has experience working across multiple clients or industries in practice.
  • Wants a role offering challenge, visibility, and progression.
  • Learns quickly and adapts well in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Is motivated by continuous improvement and making an impact.
  • Values hands‑on experience and broad exposure over narrow, repetitive work.

What We Offer

  • A significant development opportunity within a growing organisation
  • Exposure to a wide range of financial activities
  • Ability to influence reporting, systems, and process improvements
  • Supportive environment focused on professional growth
  • On‑site workplace in Waterford
